Avi Scher & Dancers brings the best quality dancers to every show. It’s a rotating roster and some recent and current dancers are below:
Sofiane Sylve, is currently a principal dancer with San Francisco Ballet. An internationally acclaimed ballerina, she has been a principal dancer with New York City Ballet and Dutch National Ballet, as well as a appearing as a guest with English National Ballet and several other companies and galas. She danced with Avi Scher & Dancers April 23-25 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, in the premiere of Scher’s “DreamScapes.”
Carla Korbes, has been a principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet since 2006, and was previously a soloist with New York City Ballet. She has appeared as a guest artist at the Vail International Dance Festival, the Dance Open Gala in St. Petersburg and with Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company. Ms. Korbes appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers in the premiere of “Mirrors” at the April 2011 NYC season.
Seth Orza, was a soloist with New York City Ballet before becoming a principal dancer at Pacific Northwest Ballet in 2010. He has also appeared as a guest artist with San Francisco Ballet, dancing Balanchine’s Emeralds. Mr. Orza ill appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers in the premiere of “Mirrors” at the April 2011 NYC season.
Tyler Angle joined New York City Ballet in 2003 and has been a principal since 2009. He is the recipient of the Mae L. Wien Award, the Martin Segal Award, and the Jerome Robbins Scholarship. He appeared in the preview of “DreamScapes” with Avi Scher & Dancers, as part of the Young Choreographers Showcase in November 2010, and danced in the premiere of the full work at the company’s 2011 April season.
Savannah Lowery, is soloist with New York City Ballet since 2007, joining the company in 2001. She dances the many featured roles in the NYCB repertoire for tall ballerinas. She has appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers twice and was featured in the photo of the company on the front page of the New York Times Arts Section, April 5, 2010. She will appear in the April 2011 season of the company at the Ailey Citigroup theater in the premiere of “DreamScapes” opposite Sofiane Sylve.
Ana Sophia Scheller, is a soloist with New York City Ballet and former member of American Ballet Theater. She is also a Mae L. Wien Award winner for 2003. Ms. Scheller performed in the preview of “DreamScapes” with Avi Scher & Dancers, as part of the Young Choreographers Showcase in November 2010, and danced in the premiere of the full work at the company’s 2011 April season.
Misa Kuranaga, a principal dancer at Boston Ballet, will danced Scher’s “Utopia” in the NYC Season, April 2011. She is a gold medal winner at the Moscow and USA International Ballet Competitions, as well as an major guest artist, including the Vail International Dance Festival and New York City Ballet.
Marcelo Gomes, has been a principal dancer with American Ballet Theater since 2002. He has appeared as a guest artist internationally and is considered one the best male dancers today. He appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers in April 2010 dancing two works by Scher, Utopia and Mystery in the Wind.
Ashley Bouder, a principal dancer with New York City Ballet since 2005 has appeared as a guest with Paris Opera Ballet and the Rome Opera Ballet as well as at many international gala and festival performances. She has appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers three times dancing four works by Scher.
Veronika Part, currently a principal dancer with American Ballet Theater was also a soloist with the Kirov Ballet. Ms. Part is a winner of the BALTIKA prize in 1999. She has appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers twice in the original casts of Touch and Mystery in the Wind.
Craig Salstein, joined American Ballet Theater in 2002 and was promoted to soloist in 2007. His standout roles include Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, Puck in The Dream, and featured roles in Mozartiana and Company B. He appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers in the 2011 season at Ailey Citigroup Theater, dancing a featured role in the premiere of Mirrors.
Joseph Gatti, is a soloist with Boston Ballet, joining the company in 2010. He was previously a member of Corella Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet and ABT Studio Company. He has also been honored at many competitions, including the 2005 Gold Medal at New York International Ballet Competition. He appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers in the 2011 season at Ailey Citigroup Theater, dancing “Utopia.”
James Whiteside, is a principal dancer with Boston Ballet. There he has danced leading roles in classics, Balanchine and many new works. He appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers in July 2010 dancing Utopia with Ashley Bouder at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. He will next appear with the company at the Guggenheim Works & Process, October 2nd and 3rd.
Abi Stafford, has been a principal dancer with New York City Ballet since 2007. She was the Janice Levin Honoree for 2001-2002 and the recipient of the Martin E. Segal award in 2003. She appeared in the Avi Scher & Dancers performances at Jacob’s Pillow and City Center in 2009 and the Ailey Citigroup Theater in 2010, dancing Last Dance, Mystery in the Wind and Inner Voice.
David Prottas, has been a member of New York City Ballet since 2006. He is the recipient of the Christopher Ondaatje Ballet Prize, The Jerome Robbins Scholarship and the Mae L. Wien Award. He has appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers three times, including their debut Jacob’s Pillow performance.
Christian Tworzyanski, has been a member of New York City Ballet since 2002. He has also appeared as a guest with Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company in London. He has appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers twice as well as working with Scher many times during their time at the School of American Ballet.
Victoria North, is a former member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. She graduated from Columbia University in 2010 and there co-founded the Columbia Ballet Collaborative, in addition to appearing with New Chamber Ballet and appearing regularly with Avi Scher & Dancers, performing in almost every performance and in several new works.
Robert Colby Damon, a dancer with Sacramento Ballet for 5 years, is now appearing with BalletX, Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Luce Vegetti and many other freelance companies in NYC. He has danced with Avi Scher & Dancers at Jacob’s Pillow, City Center, Ailey Citigroup Theater and many festivals.
Jennifer Goodman, a leading dancer with the Joffrey Ballet for 16 years, is currently dancing with BalletX, Ballet NY, Metropolitan Opera Ballet and many other freelance appearances. She has been regularly appearing with Avi Scher & Dancers since September 2010.
Kelsey Coventry, is a former member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet and BalletX. She was a part of the International tour of West Side Story where she understudied and played the role of”Anybodys”. She was an NFAA award winner in 2006. She has danced in two works in the NYC season of Avi Scher and Dancers in April 2010.
Sokvannara Sar, a former member of Pacific Northwest Ballet is currently a freelance dancer, recently appearing at the Vail International Dance Festival. He is the subject of the documentary movie Dancing Across Borders which chronicles his unique, amazing journey from Cambodia to Ballet in America. He appeared with Avi Scher & Dancers at the Kennedy Center and Symphony Space dancing a solo Scher created for him, Garden Dance.
